Your PIN guide

In this section you can find out how your PIN works. You are advised to set up a user name and PIN for each member your household and to keep your PIN secret.

Why do I need individual user names and PINs for each member of my house?

Setting up individual user names and PINs means you can be sure that younger members of your household are only accessing content suitable for them. For example if you are over 18 and share your PIN with a child they will be able to access age restricted content. If you set up them up with their own user name you can be sure they are not accessing anything you wouldn't want them to. If you have shared your PIN it is recommended that you change it and keep it secret. Another benefit is if you are an adult who has been watching age restricted programmes (such as Sex and the City, Life on Mars) and you want to ensure your child doesn't continue to watch them using your user name you can use the change user functionality on the TV service and select your child's name instead. Separate user names and PINs also enable you to see who has bought what pay per view content.

How can I set up new users and give them a PIN?

You can set up new users simply online by going to Manage My Account http://www.homechoice.co.uk/customer/login.html, signing in, clicking on the "member account" button and then clicking on "create new user". Ensure you include the date of birth of the user, as it is important for determining whether they can view age restricted content. Alternatively you can add a user by calling Customer Care on 0845 678 33 33

When do I need to enter my PIN?

You will be prompted for your PIN

  • when requesting to view age-restricted content during pre-watershed hours
  • if you have turned PIN checking for purchases off (see Household settings in My TV on your service)
  • when accessing Adult content

The watershed explained

Tiscali has adopted a "watershed" policy for its VOD programmes:

  • Between 5:30am - 8pm you will be asked to enter your PIN when accessing any VOD content
  • Between 8pm - 10pm you will only be asked for a PIN when accessing programmes or films that are rated 15 or 18. You will only be asked for it when accessing the first programme, you will not need it for subsequent programmes.
  • Between 10pm - 5:30am you will not be asked for your PIN to view any VOD programmes or films except in the Adult area of the service.
Please note, users registered as below 12/15/18 years of age will not be allowed to watch age restricted content regardless of the time of day.

Adult content

Adult content is only available for viewing between 10pm - 5:30am, all users will be asked for their PIN when viewing Adult content.

Logging off

It is possible to log a user off simply by changing user. To do this press any of the coloured buttons on the remote control, then press the blue button to change user and select a new user. This is particularly useful if you are an adult who has been watching age restricted content and you want to ensure your child doesn't continue to watch it using your user name- just change the user to their user name instead
