Tiscali TV Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)
The Tiscali TV AUP sets out some of the basic dos and don'ts for our customers when entering into the discussion groups commonly known as Usenet or when using the internet generally. This includes the wider Usenet community as well as the Tiscali TV local groups. It also clearly defines what we will and most importantly won't accept when customers use our service. We take a zero tolerance attitude in respect of any abuse of our service and it is important that you consider your use of Usenet as a Tiscali TV Subscriber carefully before entering into the Usenet groups.
So What Is Usenet And Newsgroups?
Usenet is a global, electronic discussion community that consists of thousands of newsgroups hosted on news' servers of dedicated news providers as well as individual servers hosted by ISPs (internet Service Providers) or, in some instances, hobbyists and news enthusiasts.
These groups and forums allow you to share information and opinions with people all over the world.
How many newsgroups are available?
Tiscali TV carries over 100,000 non-binary newsgroups. Some newsgroups are so popular that they may receive hundreds of messages each day, while others may have only a few articles every month.
Newsgroups are organised into hierarchies grouped by dotted name titles eg rec.arts.movies.current-films.rec which indicates that the newsgroup is within recreational topics, arts is the subgroup of recreation, movies is the subgroup of arts, and finally current-films is the topic for discussion within the movies subgroup.
Other major hierarchies include the following:
biz: commercial information and services
comp: everything to do with PCs and computing
humanities: writing and philosophy
misc: miscellaneous assortment
rec: recreational pursuits and pastimes
sci: science
soc: social issues
talk: religious and political discussions
uk: United Kingdom specific issues and topics
Homechoice: topics related to HC and our customers
Within a newsgroup, you'll find a number of articles on a number of different but related subjects being discussed. USENET newsgroups allow you to reply to articles you have read and to publish ("post") your own articles for others to read.
What USENET Newsgroups does Tiscali TV carry?
Tiscali TV's policy is to carry all newsgroups that include information in English and that have been validly created using Control messages.
We do carry non-English newsgroups if Tiscali TV customers specifically request them, and if our newsfeed supplier carries them. Tiscali TV will request to have them added.
We do not apply censorship to newsgroups except where required by UK law or where a breach of our terms and conditions of use or our AUP has been breached.
