Will the Tiscali TV software alter the configuration of my PC?

No. The Tiscali TV installation CD will simply install the necessary drivers for your PC to be able to connect to the Set-Top Box (STB) and will also install internet Explorer and Outlook Express onto your system. These standard Microsoft programs are allow you to browse the web and use email - most PCs have these installed as standard. The Tiscali TV CD simply updates these for you or installs them onto your system if they're not already present.

If you don't want to install this software, you will be given the option to cancel that part of the installation while running the CD and continue without installing them. Alternatively, follow the manual installation instructions on this site that are appropriate to your Operating System instead of following the automatic procedure.

How can I start the sign-up process manually?

My connection to the internet suddenly slowed down for a period. Why?

our connection speed may drop periodically for the following reasons, and this is perfectly normal:

  • you are using both the internet and TV services at the same time
  • congestion, due to a high volume of users trying to access the same website
  • congestion, due to a high volume of users 'jamming' up the internet pathway (phone line) at peak periods
  • internet-reliant programs are running in the background
  • Files are being uploaded/downloaded in the background.

Why can't I access certain websites?

One of the most common causes for not being able to access certain websites - while still being able to browse normally - is because the proxy settings in IE aren't set correctly. To set them correctly, please follow these instructions:

  1. Open 'internet Explorer'.
  2. Click on 'Tools' at the top and then select 'internet Options' from the drop down list and you will see a white box. Add the address of the site you are trying to access in here so that your internet Explorer will not request this page via the proxy server.
  3. Click on the 'Connections' tab, highlight your Tiscali TV connection in the white box at the top and then click on 'Settings' to the right of this box.
  4. Ensure that 'Automatically Detect Settings' and 'Use Automatic Configuration Script' are NOT ticked.
  5. Make sure 'Use a Proxy Server' and 'Bypass Proxy Server For Local Addresses' are ticked.
  6. Click the 'Advanced' button immediately to the right of these options.
  7. In the 'Http' section at the top enter "proxy.Homechoice.co.uk" into the address box and "3128" into the port box.
  8. Tick the 'Use the same proxy server for all protocols' box at the bottom.
  9. Click 'Ok' 3 times to return to internet Explorer.
  10. Close and reopen internet Explorer. Your proxy settings are now correct for use with the Tiscali TV service. Another possible reason is that the site you are trying to view is a secure site and won't allow data to be cached by a proxy server.
