Making this site usable for everyone
Alternative methods of presenting information
Graphics, images, animations, etc. cannot be read by certain specialised browsers. These include browsers used by visually impaired people and text-only based browsers. In these cases, we make sure that you can receive the information in an alternative way. If you are using a text-only browser, the information or a description of the image will be displayed on your screen as text.
Neutral use of colour
We are careful not to use colour as a means of conveying information. For instance, you will not see a button changing colour to indicate that it is time to move to the next step of a process.
Readability
Sometimes, formatting on web pages may go wrong, which may lead to the loss of paragraphs, fonts etc. . Even if this happens, we make sure that all the content on our website is presented in such as way to ensure that it is still readable.
Adaptability
Web pages often have small programmes built into them, such as scripts or applets. If these fail for some reason, or are turned off, the pages can usually still be read. Where information is conveyed in this way it is usually also presented in the text of the page.
Screen flicker
For ease of reading we make every effort to ensure that nothing on our website will cause an uncomfortable level of flickering on the screen.
Always up to date
Whenever we make changes to website content, we change all the alternative methods of displaying information too - so you will always be up-to-date.
