What is broadband internet?
Broadband is a high-speed internet connection that is 'always on'. This means you don't have to wait for files, emails and web pages etc. to download plus you can use the phone at the same time. There's no need to 'dial-up' to connect to the internet when you have broadband because the connection is already there!
Broadband is much faster than a standard dial-up connection on a normal telephone line, but some service providers are only 4x faster at downloading (256Kb), whereas Tiscali is up to 140x faster (Max Speed).
It's called broadband because it has a much larger capacity to receive and send data, enabling you to view web content faster and download files quicker.
